Lucy Cohen

Lucy Cohen is a businesswoman from Cardiff and the President of the Association of Accounting Technicians (AAT) for 2025. After starting her career through an AAT apprenticeship, she founded Mazuma at 23, launching the UK’s first subscription-based accountancy model. Mazuma has since grown into a multi-million-pound company, creating jobs across Wales and leading innovation in digital accounting for micro-businesses.

With more than twenty years in the industry, Lucy is recognised as a leading voice in modernising accounting and improving access to financial information. She holds an MBA with Distinction from Aston Business School, specialising in Digital Transformation.

A regular columnist for AccountingWEB, Lucy frequently appears on BBC, Sky and ITV to discuss business, finance and digital adoption, and has advised policymakers in Number 10 on small business technology. Her book Forget the First Million won Best Short Business Book at the 2022 Business Book Awards. She also received AAT’s Outstanding Contribution Award for her work on mental health, and the same honour from the Accounting Excellence Awards for her service to the profession.

Outside of business, Lucy represented Great Britain in powerlifting, becoming British Champion in 2016 and a Commonwealth silver medallist in 2015. She is also a campaigner for social mobility, gender equality and women’s health. Following her own experience of a traumatic IUD fitting, her campaign led to new medical guidance for all women across the UK and was described by Vogue as a “medical Me Too” moment.
